Agenda Items:

MINUTES are a written or recorded documentation used to inform attendees and non-attendees about what was discussed or what happened at a meeting. The minutes will typically include the name of the participants, agenda items covered, decisions made, any other event or discussion worth documenting for future review. Minutes are not available until approved at the following meeting.

APPROPRIATIONS ORDINANCES are simply ordinances used by cities to pay the bills.

CITY ADMINISTRATOR’S REPORT is an opportunity for the City Administrator to brief the Council on items of interest where no action is required. 

RESOLUTIONS are used when formality or permanency of ordinances are not required. Resolutions may be used when required by statute, when a separate written record is advisable, or when there is a doubt that a simple motion is sufficiently documented.

ORDINANCES are the most formal acts taken by the governing body and have the full force and effect of law. There are three basic types of ordinances: general, special, and appropriation. Ordinances are based on power delegated by the Kansas Statutes or home rule power established by the Kansas Constitution.

SPECIAL ORDINANCES are passed for a single purpose and lose their force when that purpose is accomplished. For example, an ordinance calling for a special election.

PUBLIC COMMENTS allows members of the public to speak to the City council without an agenda item. Comments may be limited or restricted by the Mayor, and no immediate action can be taken following public comments.

COUNCIL MEMBERS COMMENTS are made at the end of the meeting to allow the Council to ask questions of the city staff, make brief announcements, or report on their activities. 

MOTIONS are actions by the Council to consider an action. Motions must be seconded by another member to invoke a vote.
